Giovanni Portilho Vescovi is a Brazilian chess grandmaster. He was born in Porto Alegre on 14th June 1978. Vescovi has been a grandmaster since 1998, and has won the Brazilian Chess Championship seven times, with his victories spanning from 1999 to 2012.
Internationally, he has represented Brazil in eight Chess Olympiads from 1998 to 2014, earning individual and team medals. He also won team gold and individual silver at the 2007 Pan American Team Chess Championship. In 2009, he won the Doeberl Cup in Australia, and in 2010 he won the Rocca di Papa Tournament in Italy.
Giovanni Vescovi also participated in the 2005 FIDE World Cup, where he advanced to the second round before being knocked out by Etienne Bacrot.
