Lothar Vogt is a German chess Grandmaster and a prolific writer. He was born on 21 June 1949 in Löbau, Germany. He earned his International Master title in 1980 and the Grandmaster title in 1988. He played on the West German team in the World Student Team Chess Championship of 1972, where they won the silver medal, and in the Chess Olympiads of 1982 and 1988. Vogt won the German Chess Championship in 1971 and 1975.
Vogt has decades of experience as a chess trainer. He served as the national coach of Luxembourg from 1989 to 1998 and also taught at the German Chess Federation.
In addition to being a competitive chess player and trainer, Vogt is known for his chess compositions. He has published numerous books on the subject and won several prizes for his chess compositions.
