Andriy Vovk is a Ukrainian chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM), which he achieved in 2011. He was born on 22 November 1991 and had a twin brother, Yuri Vovk, who was also a GM. The two brothers had a distinct playing style, often using non-mainstream opening lines even in important competitions.
Andriy Vovk had several significant achievements throughout his career. These included winning the 2010 Capo d'Orso Open tournament and scoring 5.5/9 in the 2012 Ukrainian Chess Championship, securing a fifth-place finish. In 2014, he shared first place in the 12th Rochefort Open tournament. In the same year, he also tied for second place at the Cappelle-la-Grande Open and won another Open tournament in Metz. In 2015, he finished second in the French Rapid Championship and the Agzamov Memorial Tournament.
He was part of the Ukrainian national team in the European Team Chess Championship in 2013 and 2015. In October 2021, his brother Yuri died of COVID-19 and Andriy retired from competitive chess. He was an active chess coach in his later career.
