Matthew J. Wadsworth is an English chess grandmaster who learned the game at five from his father and came up through the Maidenhead Junior Chess Club. A Cambridge graduate, he took third place at the 2024 British Championship, beating rising prodigy Shreyas Royal along the way.

His final Grandmaster norm came at the Isle of Wight tournament in February 2025, where he tied for first with grandmasters Bobby Cheng, Sebastian Bogner and Boris Chatalbashev, and he completed the title that April by crossing 2500 at the Bad Worishofen festival.
