Matthias Wahls is a German International Grandmaster in chess, recognized as one of the top players in his country during the late 1990s. He initially attained his International Master status in 1984 and was later crowned with the International Grandmaster title in 1989.
In 1996, Wahls earned his first German Chess Championship in Oberhausen, with a second championship title presented in 1998 at Bremen. He further showcased his prowess in the 28th Chess Olympiad at Thessaloniki in 1988.
His success also stems from his digital involvements. He founded a reputable internet chess server Schach.de in 2001, which later merged with the notable internet server, ChessBase. He published an extensive book in 2002 titled, "The Complete French," which beautifully encapsulates the popular chess opening, French Defence.
