Wang Rui is a Chinese chess player, awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE (International Chess Federation) in February 2021. He was born on 10th February 1998 in Jiamusi, China. Wang started playing chess competitions held by FIDE at the age of 11. His first notable achievement was winning the Asian Junior Championship in 2015. This victory qualified him for the 2017 Chess World Cup, but he was eliminated in the first round. He has also achieved recognition as a member of the Chinese national junior team, coming first at the 2016 World Youth U-16 Chess Olympiad. This victory qualified Wang Rui for the 2019 Chess World Cup, where again he was eliminated in the first round.
A notable game that he has played includes the match against Grandmaster Ju Wenjun at the 2021 Women's World Chess Championship. Wang also participated in the 2020 Chinese Chess Championship, where he finished in a tie for 8th-10th places.
