Anthony Wirig is a French chess Grandmaster (GM), who was born in Metz on October 29, 1983. He gained his Grandmaster title in 2007. In 2005, he ranked second in the French Youth Championships for U20.


In the 2007 French Championships, Wirig finished in the tenth position. In the same year, he also won the International Chess Tournament at Clermont-Ferrand. In 2008, he tied for first place at the Balagna International Chess Open. He continued to assert his position in the world of chess by tying for the first place in the 2012 Vandœuvre International Chess Open and in the 2013 Marseille Chess Open.


From 2014 to 2017, Wirig was a chess teacher at the Chess Club of Vandœuvre, where he worked to help future chess champions to hone their skills. Furthermore, in 2021, he began working as a manager for BNP Paribas.


Outside his profession, Wirig loves thrill sports, as well as biking, swimming, and running. He also appreciates hurdling and skateboarding.
