GM Wong Meng Kong

Wong Meng Kong is a Singaporean chess player who holds the qualifying title of International Grandmaster, which he received in 2004. He was also an accountant by profession and retired in 2011. Wong was born on December 6, 1963 in Singapore. He won the annual Singapore National Chess Championship a record seven times in 1988, 1996, 1997, 1999, 2002, 2007 and 2008. Wong also achieved success at an international level, having participated in nine Chess Olympiads and reaching ninth place in the 2004 36th Chess Olympiad in Spain. He also led the national team in tournaments such as the 1998 Asian Team Chess Championship.
