Yu Yangyi is a Chinese chess Grandmaster who was born on June 8, 1994, in Huangshi, Hubei, China. He earned the title of Grandmaster at the age of 14 years and 11 months.
Yu is a three-time Chinese Chess Champion, winning the titles in 2009, 2013, and 2014. His other major victories include the Asian Junior Championships in 2011, the Reykjavik Open in 2014, the World Team Chess Championship in 2015 where China won its first-ever gold medal, the Qatar Masters Open in 2014 and 2015, and the 2019 Belt and Road Hunan Open.
Yu represented China at the 41st, 42nd and 43rd World Chess Olympiads, helping China win its first gold medal in the 2014 edition.
