Zhao Jun is a Chinese chess Grandmaster who was awarded the title in 2005. He was born on 12 December 1986. Zhao Jun is considered as one of the strongest chess players for his generation in China and has played for the Chinese national team in several chess events.
Zhao's earliest notable success was in 2002 when he became the Under-16 national champion of China. Then in 2003, he finished third at the World Under-18 Championship. His first international triumph was at the Aeroflot Open B in Moscow, 2005. In 2006, Zhao helped the Chinese team secure first place at the 37th Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy. By 2014, he was crowned the champion of the Hastings International Chess Congress and won the 50th Canadian Open in 2013.
