Zhao Zong-Yuan is an Australian chess Grandmaster, the youngest ever in Australia at the time of award. He was born in China on 26 December 1986 but moved to Australia at a very young age. He made waves in the chess world by winning countless national and international tournaments. He achieved a series of three International Master norms from 2004 to 2006, as well as two Grandmaster norms in 2008 and 2009, which led to him being awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2009. Still an active player, Zhao continues to compete in various tournaments around the world and represent Australia in the Chess Olympiad. In addition to being a proficient chess player, Zhao also holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Sydney.
