Sergei Alexandrovich Zhigalko is a Belarusian chess Grandmaster, which he earned at only 18 years old. He was born on 28th March 1989 in Babruysk, Soviet Union. He learned to play chess at the age of six.


Zhigalko has competed at the highest levels of chess and has acquired numerous accolades. In the U12 division of the 2000 European Youth Chess Championship, he won gold, and in 2002, he won the same event in the U14 division. He also won the 2003 U14 division of the World Youth Chess Championship. Zhigalko managed to win the 2005 Junior World Chess Championship with his brother, elder one, Andrey Zhigalko.


Zhigalko competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2009, 2011, 2013, and 2015, but he was unable to advance past the third round. He has also competed in the European Individual Chess Championship several times, with his best finish coming in 2010 when he came third.


In the Belarusian Chess Championship, Zhigalko seized victory in 2003, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2018. He has represented Belarus in several Chess Olympiads, contributing to team bronze in 2000.
