Zhu Chen is a Chinese-Qatari chess Grandmaster who was the Women's World Chess Champion from 2001 to 2004. Born on March 16, 1976 in Wenzhou, Zhejiang, Zhu began playing chess at the age of 12. She won the Girls' Under-20 World Championship in November 1994 and the Women's World Championship in 2001 by defeating Alexandra Kosteniuk of Russia.
In 2002, she scored 7 out of 9 points at the 35th Chess Olympiad and led the China team to win the team gold. That year, she married Qatari Grandmaster Mohamad Al-Modiahki and has since moved to Qatar and become a Qatari citizen. In 2006, she won the Women's World Rapid Chess Championship, and she scored 8 points in 11 games at the 37th Chess Olympiad.
