Anatoly Karpov was at the height of his powers in the 1980s, including during the matches versus Garry Kasparov. Garry Kasparov, who was twelve years younger, peaked in the 1990s. Impressively, as early as 1985, Kasparov defeated Karpov to take the title and to become the youngest champion ever.
