A pawn in the state system, my early abandonment as a child left chess as the only castle of stability in my life. Tossed between bishops throughout adolescence, it took a true battle to guide me across the colourless board of misdirection, where, beating off many a dark knight, I finally made it to the other side and found the courage to leave this life behind: i transformed, somewhat miraculously, into the queen I was born to be.
