Chess Terms : Can Opener Explained
A can opener is an attacking technique—typically an h-pawn advance (h4–h5 or ...h5–h4)—used to open lines against a castled king. The advancing pawn forces open the h-file or g-file, creating avenues for rooks and the queen to penetrate the kingside defences.
