Forfeit

In the context of chess, forfeit refers to a loss automatically incurred by a player for violation of the rules or not meeting certain conditions within the game. This could involve exceeding the stipulated time limit, failing to appear for the game, making an illegal move, or exhibiting unsportsmanlike conduct. The player who forfeits the game is considered to have lost, irrespective of the position on the board.
