Chess Terms : Fortress Explained

Fortress

A Fortress refers to an endgame drawing technique where a player, despite being in a disadvantageous position, strategically arranges their pieces to prevent the opponent's superior material from forcing checkmate. It creates an impenetrable blockade, locking the position down on the chessboard and making it impossible for the opponent's pieces to make any progress.
