Grandmaster (GM) is the highest title awarded by FIDE. To earn the GM title, a player must achieve a rating of at least 2500 and secure three favourable results (norms) in events including other GMs from multiple federations. Alternatively, winning the World Junior Championship earns an automatic GM title. The title was formally established by FIDE in 1950.
