An Indian Defence is a family of openings arising after 1.d4 Nf6, in which Black delays ...d5 in favour of a fianchetto or other hypermodern setup. Major Indian Defences include the King's Indian, Queen's Indian, Nimzo-Indian, Grünfeld, and Bogo-Indian.
