What is International Chess Day?

International Chess Day is observed annually on 20 July to commemorate the founding of FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs) on that date in 1924. The day promotes chess and its educational, cultural, and intellectual significance. It was officially recognised by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2019.
