Chess Terms : Isolated Pawn Explained
An isolated pawn is a pawn with no friendly pawns on either adjacent file. An isolated pawn cannot be defended by other pawns and must be protected by pieces—making it a potential weakness, especially in the endgame. However, an isolated pawn can also provide dynamic advantages: it controls squares and creates open lines for pieces.
