Chess Terms : Light Squares Explained
Light squares refer to the 32 squares of a chessboard which are of the lighter color. A chessboard is made up of an 8x8 grid of alternating light and dark squares. The color of the light squares can vary depending on the chess set, ranging from white to beige or even shades of light wood. Often, one of the two chess players' pieces, usually referred to as white, starts on these light squares.
