Chess Terms : Tension Explained

Tension

tension refers to a situation where pieces from opposing players are attacking each other, but neither player is yet initiating an exchange of pieces. The term can also apply when a pawn or piece is attacking an opponent's piece, and removing the attacked piece would significantly alter the position on the board. Maintaining the tension usually requires careful and strategic decision-making, while resolving the tension generally simplifies the gameplay.
