What is Time Delay?

Time Delay refers to a feature in chess clocks where the countdown of a player's time only begins after a set period, known as the delay period, has passed. If a player makes a move within the delay period, no time is deducted from their total. This method is used to prevent the disadvantage of having a very small amount of time left on the clock.
