Chess Terms : Transposition Explained

Transposition

Transposition in chess refers to a path in the game that results in a certain position, which can be reached by multiple sequences of moves. The transposition can lead to identical or mirrored positions that might be more easily achieved or more advantageous from a different move order. This is often used in the opening phase of the game, where the same position can be reached through different sequences of moves. As a result, a particular position could be achieved irrespective of the move order.
