Chess Terms : Unpinning Explained

Unpinning

Unpinning in chess refers to the act of moving a piece that was previously pinned, hence freeing it from being directly attacked or under threat. A pinned piece is one that is immobilized because moving it would expose a more valuable piece to attack. So, unpinning effectively reduces this vulnerability by either moving the pinned piece, or moving the more valuable piece to a safer location.
