New name for me. What instrument is he playing?
I knew a guy in Ramallah who played the Oud, Abu Gannon, a virtuoso on the instrument. We went to his house and got to talking, I had brought a mandolin and showed him some tunes and I asked to play his instrument. Abu has played with the Israeli philharmonic, a major player and it turned out later it was an honor for him to allow anyone to touch his instrument. I found out the first two set of strings were tuned in fifth's, just like a fiddle or mandolin and was able with those 4 strings to play some Irish tunes on it which surprised Abu no end🙂 the Oud has sets of double strings like a 12 string guitar, two strings tuned to the same note and the next set up tuned in fifths to the first set, just like a fiddle. It was a memorable day for me to say the least.

I also had an experience with another Oud player in the Ramallah, my wife and I passed a small music shop run by a guy named Mustafa, I asked him if I could take lessons and got an incredible look of hatred. We beat a hasty retreat I can tell you. Another memorable experience🙂
