I believe, in addition to being an excellently humourous and clever author and a physician, he played in goal for Portsmouth F.C..

My favourite Conan Doyle is The Lost World. One of the funniest and most exhilarating adventures I've ever read. There was a fantastic Pixar film released fairly recently (called Up!) which featured the same location, I think (in Venezeula), as that which inspired Sir Arthur.

Have you seen bbc's new take on sherlock? I was sceptical at first, but now I've seen every
episode I could get my hands on.

I've only got a half dozen volumes on my many bookshelves that give off that "gilt-edge Corinthian leather-bound" aura. (Less than $30 each, faux leather. 😛) One of them is the complete Holmes by Doyle.

My father's buddy from the 1950s recently wrote a novel in which the main character "channels" Doyle for advice on solving crimes.
