That clears things up, thanks. I infer a reference to Wimbledon in the to-and-fro references -- way leading on to way, coming back again -- you can practically sense the movement of the faces in the crowd.

No true poet needs either a guitar or a shovel, much like no true painter needs either a weaving loom or a bicycle.
