I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear this crown of thorns
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here
What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
And you could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation
You're living in the past, it's a new generation
A girl can do what she wants to do
And that's what I'm gonna do
And I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
And I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation
Never said I wanted to improve my station
And I'm only doin' good when I'm havin' fun
And I don't have to please no one
And I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation
Never been afraid of any deviation
And I don't really care if you think I'm strange
I ain't gonna change
And I'm never gonna care 'bout my bad reputation
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
Pedal, boys!
And I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation
The world's in trouble, there's no communication
And everyone can say what they wanna say
It never gets better, anyway
So why should I care about a bad reputation anyway?
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation
You're living in the past, it's a new generation
And I only feel good when I got no pain
And that's how I'm gonna stay
And I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
Oh no (No no no no no no)
Not me (Me me me me me me)
Not me (No no no no no no)
Not me!
-- Joan Jett, "Bad Reputation", Joan Jett (1980)
@Suzianne saidI remember when Joan was going through this. None of the record label execs wanted to take a chance on her, even though her music was wildly popular everywhere she played. These same idiots told Stevie Nicks "She didn't have the right voice for rock music" Today Jett and Nicks are wildly successful, while the execs (the few still alive) are struggling to pay their light bills.
