Woodstock was American corporatism trying to cash in on Monterrey by dispensing a few drugs. It best represents the Sixties in light of the words of Frank Zappa (writing about the riots on Sunset Strip protesting the closing of Pandora's Box):
A fine little girl, she waits for me
She's as plastic as she can be
She paints her face with plastic goo
And wrecks her hair with some shampoo
Plastic people
Oh, baby, now you're such a drag
i read a newspaper article yesterday about Chip Monk, the MC and lighting guy at Woodstock, who now lives in Melbourne, Australia. he talks about how disorganised everything was in the leadup, and how he was appointed MC with just a few hours to the scheduled start. he was the guy who advised the crowd there could be problems with the brown acid. he seemed to be a guy with a knack for finding himself at the centre of things - he was at Monterey '67, at the Stones' infamous Altamont concert, and also when Dylan plugged in his electric guitar and got booed.
