Candyman (John Hurt has his own version and a bit harder to play, my teach, Mike Stewart, however taught me how to play it almost exactly) Mike AKA Backwards Sam Firk and Tom Hoskins, AKA Fang, rediscovered John Hurt and brought him to DC where he lived with Firk for 3 months, out-partying the whole DC crowd🙂 I was bummed out when I found out John died before I became Mike's student. Oddly enough, I was studying Hurt in 1963, the year Fang and Firk found John, playing over and over the Harry Smith compilation from the 1950's, I got 1/3 of the set, 2 vinyls, in 1963, it had two John Hurt songs, Frankie and the other, Spike Driver Blues ("This is the hammer that killed John Henry, won't kill me) I must have played Spike Driver Blues a hundred times.

I feel lucky to have had an evening recording this legend.
First time I've ever heard the musician Rev. Gary Davis. He certainly has an extensive repertoire; his passionate performance is enjoyable. Thanks.

She is still young, only 55 so she will be performing for a long time to come. Her schedule goes into 2017.
