The Beatles went a little overboard when they said they were more popular than god....

Totally out of context. John Lennon made that comment as a casual description of the amount of fans the interviewer was questioning them on. It was not a brag, it was a joke. Besides, at that time in the western world they probably had more influence.

Axel Rose, the Oasis guy, Bono, of course... damn, basically
anybody creating crap who dares to open his/her mouth to
say other than "I am sorry, I make crap for a living".

Edit. Lou Reed.

Axl Rose is a good one. I don't think Lou Reed takes himself very seriously, though.

Some others:
Anthony Kiedis
Steven Tyler
Ozzy Osbourne

Spot on with Steven Tyler.

As for Lou, the few interviews I've seen from the guy, he
came forward as quite arrogant, I'd say. Maybe he was
stoned, lol

...

What do you say about Gene Simmons? The guy is arrogant
but I'll have to give it to him that his overconfidence comes
from his record of nailed ladies and his money, rather than
from the music itself. So he seems honest from that point
of view.

Well, someone who makes Metal Machine Music can't take himself very seriously. About this record he said: "anyone who gets to side four is dumber than I am".

I don't know Gene Simmons' attitude too well.

I suspect that's in line for a Prince fan.

Bono.

May a 16 ton weight drop out of the sky onto his head.

Not hard to argue with all of these except Lennon. Lennon does not strike me as a pretentious twit.

David Byrne, though...Eddie Van Halen....there are others, as soon as I post this I'll remember more (unfortunately).

I won't use nail polish so it's more, like, a blitzkrieg.
