So now the republican party is not in the slightest interested in democracy, now ONLY interested in keeping power.
This is the end of republicans. They are not in the slightest working with democrats.
They are after a coup no matter how they try to do it.
But they are now forever tainted with corruption and will be seen as such next voting cycle.
They should be ashamed of this disgraceful episode in American history.
They ONLY want to have complete control of government so they can continue to screw over the average citizen and ONLY interested in making big companies bigger and richer so THEY can get more and more PAC money to keep their sorry asses in office.
Moscow Mitch is the senate anti democracy leader, under the thumb of Trump.
It is close to the death knell of democracy in the US.
When those anti American idiots, 106 of them, find out the case is total BS, we will still be left with the lot of them.
They did however did a big reveal about just how anti American they are and the hope is the next election cycle they will be buried in the dusk of history.
@Duchess64
Oh GEE, thanks for pointing that out, I NEVER would have put that together.
I assume you think everyone here has an IQ of 80 MAX.
Like I said before, why don't you just not talk to me. It gets tiring after a while listening to your inherent arrogance.
BTW, this anti American democracy didn't start with Trump, it STARTED with Newt Gingrich who wrote the book on republican ethics and no don't tell me he didn't actually write a book.
@sonhouse saidNewt Gingrich did indeed start this back in 1994 with the Tea Party young Republicans. Some are still in office and represented some of the loudest defense of Trump during the impeachment hearings. A cancer on democracy, all of them.

@suzianne saidIt actually started way earlier.

The divisions in US society became evident in the late 60’s.
Blatant political undermining (the will to cheat to get ahead in politics) followed in the 70’s.
These two things combined started the polarization that’s manifesting itself in the US today.
Then along came Raygun and a hardcore drive for as much laissez-faire capitalism as possible. This destroyed the manufacturing industry leading to a lot of poverty. Also amongst the white working classes.
The USSR fell, and with it a major enemy which could unite the US in a political sense.
Increased poverty, no enemy to unite against and a growing polarization.
Briefly there was the Islamic terrorist threat. But that is way too dragged out (undefined and not really a threat) to keep focussed on.
So. It is time to scape goat.
And with very few elements in place (socialists, trade unions, etc.) to focus on the political system which was creating the mess), the republicans have targetted the democrats as the enemy upon which to focus.
A severly stupid concept, because it undermines democracy. It leads to leaders like trump. People like McConnell who don’t care about hypocrisy, as long as it serves their own political aims.
And, historically, it never ends well.
I’m not sure most Americans are actually aware how close to an actual coup they were / are.
Democracy doesn’t generally die in a blast, but in a beaurocratic entanglement.
106 elected officials attempted to overthrow the election results in a self-apponted court.
Repeat it.
106 elected officials, backed by the president, tried to overthrow a democratic election in a court in which they appointed a majority of judges.
And millions of people support them.
How do you think this ends?
Where are the institutions which can bring harmony and solidarity?
They’ve been wiped away.
How does this end?
@shavixmir
No doubt about it, the divisions are deeper than we suspected with our heads firmly up our collective asses.
But the near fatal result that could have ended our democracy in fact did NOT so we still have a chance to get our act together.
And I fully expect there to be violence from folks like the Proud Boys, who were told by Trump STAND DOWN AND STAND BY.
Code for wait for my signal to start killing so I can point to the public, SEE, I TOLD YOU SO.
The only way forward now is for the two democrats running for senate in Georgia is for them to win to break the hold Moscow Mitch and Trump has held over the country following the Gingrich playbook.
At least if we get back the senate, we can move forward with legislation badly needed in terms of climate change, civil rights and the like.
If we only get ONE senator from Georgia, the people would be saying 'let's keep the anti democracy movement afloat and hobble President Biden so nothing can be done and then we can BLAME the democrats for their apparent failure.
Right now that is my biggest fear, that Moscow Mitch keeps control of the senate.
He is the most dangerous monkey wrench in our democracy right now and HAS to be voted down or else the plot against democracy will continue unabated AND may even lead to another autocrat attempt in 2024, say DON JR now being POTUS.
I bet millions of Americans would LOVE that.
My hope is say, a year from now when maybe we can get into big parties, see movies, go to church and all the rest of the yearning for companionship that enough folks will come to realize how close we came to being another banana republic and actually vote these autocrat seekers out of office and I would not be a BIT surprised that struggle could go on for another 50 years.
As sick as that sounds.
