From the BBC reporting on The Lancet:
More than 18 million people - three times higher than official records suggest - have probably died because of Covid, say researchers.
Their report comes two years to the day from when the World Health Organization first declared the pandemic.
The Covid-19 excess mortality team at the US's Washington University studied 191 countries and territories for what they call the true global death figure.
Some deaths were from the virus, while others were linked to the infection.

The measure used is called excess deaths - how many more people have been dying than would be expected compared to recent years, before the pandemic hit.

I’m not entirely sure how the study takes into account other reasons for increased excess deaths, but, hey, I ain’t no scientist.

Officially it’s 6 million deaths, which is high enough as it is, but 18 million is quite staggering.

To put it in perspective: seasonal flu kills 291,000 to 646,000 world wide per year.

And then there’s the amount of hospitalisations!

Let’s hope it’s over.

Covid was a mild threat; another Spanish flu will put it into perspective.

woooo you're making us all soooooooo scared.

Everyday more people are awake to the lies, while some of those that took the seizure syrup will likely wear a mask for the rest of their life.

How could it possibly be "over"? COVID is never going to be over any more than flu or heart disease or cancer are going to be "over." Maybe if we ever get a sterilizing vaccine, but we're no closer to than than we are to colonizing Pluto.

COVID exists. It's a fact of life. Life has risks. Everyone can make their personal decisions on what risks they want to expose themselves to and what precautions they want to take. Constantly lamenting the risks or trying to blame people for them is irrelevant.

Nobody’s wearing a bloody mask anymore.

What are you on about?
You need to get that paranoia seen to.

this article would be just as relevant if the number were 50 million, 100 million

It could even be lower than the 6 million.

The scary part is what has been done to prevent this in the future?

It highly certain china along with the US dod created this virus. Now word is a bio lab was discovered in Ukraine.

When this virus first appeared who stood to benefit?

Dems were almost certain to lose the 2020 election, Trump had china on the ropes as far as trade. Both WON with this virus.

Well, I don't know.

We have vaccines. We have treatments. We have ways to deal with this disease. So, sure, for most of us, the worst has certainly passed.

But there will be more pandemics and more variants and more respiratory diseases and generate and circulate. Does it really matter whether we call them flu or COVID or some other name? I'm not entirely convinced that Omicron should have been classified as the same disease as Wuhan original Covid. so when Zeta variant comes out and cases spike next February and the all-time cases ticker ratchets up to a gazillion, do we go back to the same thinking as of March, 2020 ? I hope not.

You prove once again you are not interested in either science or the plight of people but ONLY interested in weaponizing medical science for your own pathetic political purposes. Your own PPP.

Being anti-mask, anti-vaccine saved no one. In fact it probably killed more than it should have.

Apparently YOU don't mind millions killed by people crying about "losing their freedom".

(That just kills me. Whites crying about "losing their freedom". Well, boo-freaking-hoo.)
