Here is a PBS documentary from the late 80s about a secret government operating in the USA

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3505348655137118430

"This is the full length 90 min. version of Bill Moyer's 1987 scathing critique of the criminal subterfuge carried out by the Executive ... all » Branch of the United States Government to carry out operations which are clearly contrary to the wishes and values of the American people. The ability to exercise this power with impunity is facilitated by the National Security Act of 1947. The thrust of the exposé is the Iran-Contra arms and drug-running operations which flooded the streets of our nation with crack cocaine. The significance of the documentary is probably greater today in 2007 than it was when it was made. We now have a situation in which these same forces have committed the most egregious terrorist attack on US soil and have declared a fraudulent so-called "War on Terror". The ruling regime in the US who have conducted the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, are now banging the war drum against Iran. We have the PATRIOT act which has stripped us of many of our basic civil rights justified by the terror of 9/11 which is their own doing."

Could you please list which civil rights we have lost due to the Patriot Act?

For one, now, police have the right to search your car with no warrent and no reason. That is for starters. Then there is the massive invasion of our privacy in many ways, FBI going through our medical records, tapping phone lines without need of that pesky court order. Shall I go on?

The police never needed a warrent to search your car, only probable cause. FBI still need court order to do those things. Please go on.

Now the executive branch has the power to freeze the assets and arrest anyone that they deem is a threat to Bushs policies in Iraq, they don't even need evidence and the people have no right to Habeus Corpus (sp?) - the most basic right.

Bush issues executive order july 17th: http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20 070717-3.html

"I therefore determine that for these measures to be effective in addressing the national emergency declared in Executive Order 13303 and expanded in Executive Order 13315, there need be no prior notice of a listing or determination made pursuant to section 1(a) of this order." - No investigation or probable cause is neccessary, only the name being written on a list and signed by The Secretary of the Treasury is necessary for the Executive Branch to freeze your assets and arrest you and hold you for no pre-determined period of time.

One of the most searing events in German history occurred soon after Hitler took office. On February 27, 1933, in what easily could be termed the 9/11 terrorist attack of that time, German terrorists fire-bombed the German parliament building. It shouldn't surprise anyone that Adolf Hitler, one of the strongest political leaders in history, would declare war on terrorism and ask the German parliament (the Reichstag) to give him temporary emergency powers to fight the terrorists. Passionately claiming that such powers were necessary to protect the freedom and well-being of the German people, Hitler persuaded the German legislators to give him the emergency powers he needed to confront the terrorist crisis. What became known as the Enabling Act allowed Hitler to suspend civil liberties "temporarily," that is, until the crisis had passed. Not surprisingly, however, the threat of terrorism never subsided and Hitler's "temporary" emergency powers, which were periodically renewed by the Reichstag, were still in effect when he took his own life some 12 years later

No, they don't need probably cause because they can just say "This person was suspicious of this and that" but really, its a crock of bull poo because they don't need proof, just words which are meaningless.

Freedom of assembly and freedom of speech. If you carry a sign that disagrees with the president, you may not carry it anywhere near where he might accidentally get information about what people really think. If you try anyway to make sure he sees the sign, you will be arrested. You can get kicked out of malls and off airplanes because of what your tee shirt says. It can be vulgar or obscene, but not anti-Bush/current policies.

That's for starters...

There have always been laws preventing demonstrators from being too close. There's a law that says if he sees the sign you can be arrested? Reminds me of the Civil War and WW2 where thay practically thru the constitution away. You are right, we are losing are rights and that's exactly what the enemy wants.
