Has anyone seen Theroux's new shockumentary about Miami County jail? Scary stuff, although that's Theroux's game.

The local news is saying that the state is going to try to shuffle many of the inmates off on the counties. No word as to whether it will be an unfunded mandate.

But they could solve the problem by requiring that each of the three strikes be violent felonies, and by offering more probation and less prison on drug convictions.

Well, I'm pretty liberal about that, and I'm all for legalizing marijuana and some of the lighter drugs. Speed is a huge problem though, and it destroys the brain. I'm not sure the anti-prohibition arguments hold up for a drug like that, but I'm open to ideas.

Doctors already prescribe speed for weight loss, air force pilots and probably other stuff. It's like alcohol...easy to overdose on.

I got a need...a need for speed!

Sure, and they use cocaine as pain-killers in surgery, and morphine, etc. And coffee is legal.

But the speed which is being made in the bathtubs and sometimes being sold to kids in candy form is a serious problem, and I'm not sure that making it legal for recreational purposes will solve any problems.

Arguably it will do so for marijuana, because it will greatly reduce the price which will remove most of the criminal element. They say that the price for the high grade stuff will be reduced from thousands of dollars per pound to hundreds. I'm not sure the same dynamics will work for speed.
