Norfolk Southern, the US railway company responsible for the toxic spew of vinyl chloride, has now offered a $25,000 donation to assist the area’s nearly 5,000 residents who were ordered to evacuate their homes, or face death.
Norfolk Southern has a history of lobbying against safety regulations. The publicly traded company, which has a market value of $55 billion, fought the Federal Railroad Administration’s push to upgrade the “Civil War era” brake system that remains widely used in American trains, and against stricter rules on the transport of hazardous materials. (Meanwhile, its employees still lack guaranteed sick leave.)
Damn, all these regulations on american multibillion dollar companies make me sick to my stomach
Also, it's safe to go back to their homes, officials say.
@zahlanzi saidwhy do you think biden hasnt come down on them?

@zahlanzi saidThe Monsanto company also did horrible things. Enron was crooked. The Border is being invaded in plain sight. Biden at this moment says he will move to QUADRUPLE corporate taxes, which will quadruple the cost of our toilet paper.

So, a lot of stuff to be fixed....by govt....by Biden. Could you answer Mott, above, I, myself, am exhausted. Biden is yours, he is not ours.
Too bad he is so distracted by his corruption. But, I bet he is not too worried, ...because of the simple fact that NONE of them, starting with Clintons, will ever be punished.
@zahlanzi saidWhat this shows is that unbridled capitalism is unviable. The problem is convincing people like Joe here that any restriction or regulation of the market economy is not a slippery slope leading inevitably to socialism.

It's because they are under too much pressure from regulation. We should deregulate them more.
"Biden at this moment says he will move to QUADRUPLE corporate taxes, which will quadruple the cost of our toilet paper."
Yep, that's totally how the economy works. Also, good. If he actually does it, and I won't hold my breath that he does.
"So, a lot of stuff to be fixed....by govt....by Biden. "
Yep. Biden must fix it. Not the congress now controlled by the republicans which are trying to cut socials security and medicare and do away with income tax. Not the senate who seems to only get something done if it helps corporations. Biden specifically.
Maybe he should do some executive orders.
"Biden is yours, he is not ours."
Wtf are you talking about. I am criticizing Biden when he doesn't do enough but he is way way better than the orange baboon before him. That hardly makes him "ours"
At the very least he promised to veto any cuts to social security and medicare. He passed the infrastructure bill which, though it helped corporations, it will also help
americans.
@mott-the-hoople saidNow or before the accident? I don't know, ask Manchin, Synema and the 50 republicans constantly voting against regulating their sugar daddies. Any sugar daddy, not this railway giant in particular
why do you think biden hasnt come down on them?

you lose credibility when you lie like this
@mott-the-hoople saidthey are caught on video saying it, dumbass. there are proposed bills.
“ republicans which are trying to cut socials security and medicare”

I know it's difficult to understand because "this cuts social security" is not written in red crayon with huge capital letters in those bills but, just one example, raising the age of retirement does just that.
@mott-the-hoople saidasking the same nonsensical question without giving the clarifications i asked for will get you the same answer.
answer my question…

well post a link to one of these videos…I cant find one
@zahlanzi saidso it is nonsensical to ask why biden hasnt done anything about this company but it is ok for you to bitch about others not doing anything…gotcha π

@moonbus saidI am all for thoughtful restriction and regulation. Do you not think that government is overregulating, though? Obama lathered it on, but did you notice the economy surge when Trump wiped them away?
What this shows is that unbridled capitalism is unviable. The problem is convincing people like Joe here that any restriction or regulation of the market economy is not a slippery slope leading inevitably to socialism.
And before your respond that other sectors, like debt, etc were affected, surely you know that all presidents borrow money, blah blah. He raised our economy to new heights, with NO regulations. Why do you libs speak casually about government regulation? I think NKorea is trying it, but has gone overboard, don't you think? If NK got their nose out of the daily lives of people, Capitalism would just naturally evolve. Some would work harder than others and get richer than others. Should the Government regulate THAT, Moon? All of y'all are saying that as we speak.
You fellers have regulations for breakfast.
