For those in the UK ,apparently there's a Channel 4 documentary on the way about the CIA's numerous failed attempts to bump off Fidel Castro. Fabian Escalante, Castro's one time bodyguard, claimed there was near enough 600 attempts by America to assassinate him.
My favourite has to be the exp ...[text shortened]... ld War. Am I wrong in thinking the Iron Curtain curtailed the direct invasions we see today?
Originally posted by General PutzerNo, it's run by idiots. That info came from disclassified US government documents.
600 attempts to kill Castro? Was everything else in the documentary just as believable?
Come on...SIX HUNDRED?? Utter nonsense.
The CIA might screw up a few times, but you'd think once in 600 would be a sure thing, wouldn't you?
Originally posted by no1marauderDid Michael Moore supply these documents?? So the CIA tried over 600 times to kill Castro, and each attempt failed? And you believe it? Sounds like you'd believe just about anything, then.

"Fabian Escalante, who, for a time, had the job of keeping El Commandante alive, has calculated that there have been a total of 638 attempts on Castro's life."
Justifying his position?
Originally posted by General PutzerIt sounds like you won't believe the truth. No surprise. Last I checked, Michael Moore wasn't in charge of the US government (unfortunately).

Why didn't they say 10,000 attempts? or ten million, for that matter, and really make Castro seem invincible?
Teh CIA tried to kell teh Castol 5 gigawatt times and failed....
So the CIA is now giving out info on HUNDREDS of failed clandestine assassination attempts....get real. The info is made up bogus nonsense.

Actually, the quote was:
"Fabian Escalante, who, for a time, had the job of keeping El Commandante alive, has calculated that there have been a total of 638 attempts on Castro's life
Nothing about them all being orchestrated by the CIA... home grown Cubans were plenty unhappy with Castro, I can believe that there were many attempts on his life by his own people, that makes sense.

The CIA was committed to assassinating Castro and made many attempts to do so. Would it help your opinion of the CIA to know that the Church committee in the 70's said the CIA made "dozens of attempts to kill Castro"? That was before a lot of information became public about their operations in Cuba like Operation Mongoose.
Doesn't say much for Castro's popularity with the people, does it?
