Of course ,I have no doubt that it may actually be a solid majority of Americans who do so, but there are plenty of married persons that simply only copulate.

I would be highly surprised if 98% of men consistently masturbate while the 2% is made up exclusively of hard celibate folks & married people who only copulate.

This also suggests the number is far more modest:

It was... a joke...

I did absolutely 0 research into the 98% figure.
Indeed, one could say I was bored inbetween tissues and squirted some nonsense over the forum.

Little did I know that pulling such a stunt would end up with such a sticky mess about figures.
Probably best to let this thread dry up. It’s easier to clean that way.
