The reason is more likely that the energy corporations are running that show and wanted to create a temporary problem with production. Terrorism sure as heck fire wasn't the issue.

In 2006 and 2010 midterms, the people fooled the experts, when in 2006 a great many conservative Democrats won House seats from Republicans, and in 2010 when the Tea party snatched a great many seats from both vulnerable Democrats and from incumbent Republicans.
