Finally, over 20 states are shutting down the free money spigot. (All repub governors). But I have a question......Does it make sense for everyone here that in a booming economy, which we have had for a while, does it make sense to give money to its citizens?

Pay attention: Trump gave $1.3 Trillion in tax breaks to the rich; why don't Republicans complain about giving money to those who don't need it, if they are against giving help to people who actually do?

This is Republican logic:

Government giving money to rich = good
Government giving money to poor = bad.

How does this make sense?

Trump rolled back a slew of environmental regulations because it costs big businesses money. Meanwhile, that lack of regulation results in more pollution, which in turn results in sicker people who need more healthcare. Republicans continually fight to enable insurance companies to charge those same people getting sicker from Republican policies exorbitant prices for healthcare.

Republicans then turn around and blame the poor for their problems.

Makes perfect sense to me.
But to the question, does it make sense to pay money to citizens in a booming economy....today?

Interesting observation....... there may be about 330Million others, though. And you, like Sonhouse, seem to KNOW why Trump did things. How do you know his reason? I dont think he told us the reason that you state here. Whew.

A restate: If a country like Bozistan has a booming economy, now, would it make sense for their government to give money to its citizens?

(There is no such country, I am only doing an analogy here...dont go Handy Andy on me. It will aid you in not mentioning Trump, and to thus answer the question, in the Now.

Trump: ‘I’m very greedy’

Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday described himself as a “very greedy person,”. . . .

“I like money. I’m very greedy. I’m a greedy person. I shouldn’t tell you that, I’m a greedy – I’ve always been greedy. I love money, right?

Trump is a "doctor" who deliberately lied about the severity of a pandemic, wondered if injecting bleach was a good idea, put a gag order on a leading physician from sharing information about the pandemic and cut funding from the World Health Organization.

Some "doctor".

Our economy would be more likely described as "recovering" than "booming".

One way to help it recover is to get money in the hands of consumers since consumer spending is most of GDP.

I thought this had already been discussed, along with topics such as Obama saying you would save $2500, when in fact, it ended up COSTING $2500, and that you could keep your doctor.
Then the Biden lies, which have yet to be discussed. They will evolve as time goes on, I think the first one is Inflation, it is prob the tax that he said middle class would not have to pay. Well, my maid is paying almost $4 gallon gas, and she is middle class. That will wipe out any tax avoidance promised by Biden.

Here are a few lies of Biden: General Motors is the largest corporation in the world.
In the US, we lose more than 3000 people a day to cancer.
Said that 'the moment the Iraq war started, I came out against it at that moment'
He said that Obama dissent lock people up in cages, when he certainly did

He said that the NAACP endorsed him every time he has run

He told Jon Stewart 7 years ago that no one in his family worked for coal mines. Last month, he said on television that his grandfather was a coal miner. Where it is convenient, I guess, altho he was lying then, or he is lying now. Lies,ViVify

He said that during the Obama administration , '18,000 people got clemency'.

If we kept the minimum wage indexed to inflation, people would be making $20/hr right now.

Why am I typing all this? You already know he is a liar. And for the record, there is a way to understand greed, which justifies its existence. Makes men, who create jobs, successful. Do you care if some one is successful or greedy? Why? You dont know them. As I have said before, what have they got to do with you? I guess you might say ole AvJoe has a touch of it. I hate it Vivify.

I don't care about Biden, I despised him as a choice for president and criticized him multiple time on this forum. Go ahead: hate away.

My only problem with you criticizing Biden is that it comes from a place of hypocrisy. Oh, you hate lies? Where was your attack on Trump when he was *recorded* admitting he lied about the severity of COVID?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2021/01/24/trumps-false-or-misleading-claims-total-30573-over-four-years/

Trump’s false or misleading claims total 30,573 over 4 years

I don't care if anyone attacks Biden; but conservatives like you have no right to do so. Conservatives like you are hypocrites,

It would be refreshing, given the state of affairs, to have discussions and posts about the present problems we face in this country, which of course include the presidential administration. We would deal with comments made by the president or his administration, but not about past administrations. It would be more interesting and more current, don’t you think? We could leave Trump to the Sonhouse rants.
Here’s a soft ball.....Biden said yesterday he needed to have this bill passed for one thing to create jobs. Yet, today there are 7 million jobs unfilled out there. Can you begin the discussion by telling us what he means and if that is a logical statement

Look at this way. If Trump had had a gambling habit, causing him to be a little chancey with monetary decisions, and Biden also has the same habit, and makes chancy decisions, should we discuss the present problem of our president, or should we discuss what the recent president(s) did?

That's not an honest thing to say.

Trump still has a stronghold on the Republican party and the GOP makes moves with Trump in mind. For example, they recently blocked a bipartisan---I repeat, *bipartisan*---investigation into the Jan 6th riots caused by Trump supporters. They are doing this, obviously, to protect Trump, who may run again in 2024.

Also, the same politics the GOP displayed to favor Trump are still in our government; we don't have a magically different government now that Biden is president. The same politicians who fought for Trump's policies are still in office, and are still making decisions with him in mind. In fact, Trump's hold the GOP is still so strong, Paul Ryan slammed his own party for still being under Trump's influence.

The same politicians who voted against Trump's impeachment (twice) are still in office and still under Trump's influence. Trump is still too popular with his base for Republicans to ignore, and they're still pursing the same polies and tactics when Trump was in office. They're also deliberately setting up a Trump/Biden rematch.

I'd love for Trump to become old news and move on; but sadly, that's not realistic because Trump still rules the GOP,
