I have read that neurologists are able to detect human brain wave activity when the fetus is 4 1/2 months old but not before then. If this is true then it seems to me we should allow abortion during the first trimester but late term abortion should be illegal. This seems to be the most rational view that science can provide us at this time.

Of coarse the fetus is alive. Of coarse it is a baby. I can't remember the last time someone gave birth to a litter of puppies. It is only a matter of stating at what deveopmental stage is it legal and humane to snuff them out. Maybe at one week, two weeks, second trimester, or how about after they are born. Maybe before they learn to talk, or at least before they are developmentally able to say, 'Get the !??!??!! away from me!'

Why is the pro-life lobby dominated by men do you think?
It's a little ironic, given that they're not the ones that have to actually do the pregnancy and birth bit ...

besides, its the mans child too you know.

Of course it's the man's child too.
I would expect that if my wife and I were in that situation of facing an abortion that we would decide together.
But it's a little strange to get self righteous about something that you can have no experience of. I will never become pregnant, never have to carry a foetus, never have to go through the agony of childbirth (although I've seen it up close twice). So for me to attack women who make the choice to not go through this, for whatever reasons, seems ridiculous.
