Comment is given regarding the abortionists appointment (rather negative comment) and opportunity is given for readers to offer their own insights.
Abortionist: The fetus is not human, rather, it is merely a parasitic manifestation of a figment of your imagination.
Anit-abortionist: No, it is human.
Abortionist: Your nothing more than a religious right winged fanatic trying to push your religion on me!!.
Anti-abortionist: No, I just think it is a human being.
Abortionist: What, you want us to go back to back alley abortions and such?
Anti-abortionist: No, I just think it is a human being.
Abortionist: What, you don't have anything else to say?
Anti-abortionist: No.
Abortionist: Well to bad, after all it is legal now is'nt it?
There, that should about do it. 😀
He is divisive because support for abortion rights in Canada is 100%. In fact, support for unrestricted access to abortion (which is the state of abortion in Canada right now) isn't even 50%. And so in appointing this man to a prestigious Order, the belief is the committee is making an ideological appointment.
Originally posted by OldLoonWell, in the states, all they care about when selecting a Supreme Court justice is if they favor or do not favor abortion. In that regard our appointments are ideological ones as well. It just goes to show ya, people are pretty much the same everywhere. LOL.

I agree. But the Supreme Court appointments are not meant to be demostrations of unity, they are supposed to be identifying a candidate of quality. The Order of Canada is meant to identify Canadians that people of diverse ideologies can identify with. With Morgentaler's appointment, the committee has taken the ideologies beyond the boundaries it once operated in. I would say the same thing if a hero of the Right (and one divisivee to the Left) were appointed.
Originally posted by OldLoonSupreme Court appointments are made in an effort to find quality candidates but also, and perhaps more importantly, they are done for political manuevering in an attempt to secure power by the left or the right within the Judicial branch of governmnet. The goal is to have unification of all 3 branches of government under a one party banner. If achieved, you could say it is done in the attempt at "unity". 😉

Don't get me wrong, I know next to nothing about "The Order of Canada", however, I do know a great deal about human nature. Therefore, I will make the bold prediction that this appointment, as other appointments, has more to do with political goals in mind rather than simply making Canadians feel good about themselves. If the political goal was soley to unify Canadians, as you put it, then they would have chosen someone else, no?

Originally posted by whodeyPerhaps I was a bit imprecise in my remarks about the Supreme Court. Yet even there, a Justrice must be approved in a Senate Committee and then in the general Senate. With Order of Canada nominations, there is a committee of 9 (the Supreme Court justice, notable public citizens, and two government officials), and historically the person's name they put forward to the Governor General has to have been put forward unanimously (members of the government say that this selection was not unanimous), because it is the symbol of unity that is central to this nomination's goal. On a day like Canada's birthday (when these nominations are make) the purpose is to unify rather than reignite debates about abortion for example.
Supreme Court appointments are made in an effort to find quality candidates but also, and perhaps more importantly.......................

But seemingly even Holland has a hand full of them hiding in caves or something.

ACP: But a fertilized egg can suffer and think just like you or I.
PCP: Without a nervous system or brain?
ACP: GOD DEMANDS EVERY FERTILIZED EGG BECOME AN ADULT!!! SHUT UP YOU HERETIC!!! GOD WILL SMITE YOU!!!
PCP: Then why so many miscarriages?

The Order of Canada is the centrepiece of Canada’s honours system and recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and service to the nation. The Order recognizes people in all sectors of Canadian society. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country. The Order of Canada’s motto is DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (They desire a better country).
