TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Threats and economic sanctions will not stop Iran's technological progress, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned Saturday at a large parade featuring fighter jets and radar-avoiding missiles designed to show off the country's military might.

"Those (countries) who assume that decaying methods such as psychological war, political propaganda and the so-called economic sanctions would work and prevent Iran's fast drive toward progress are mistaken," Ahmadinejad said at the parade.

Ahmadinejad comments come as discussions continue by the United States and its European allies over a third round of U.N. Security Council sanctions against Iran for its refusal to suspend uranium enrichment.

The military parade outside the capital Tehran marked the 27th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Iran that sparked the bloody 1980-88 war. Iran used the parade to display its latest weapons, including radar-avoiding missiles, super-fast torpedoes, unmanned surveillance drones, battle tanks and other domestically produced weapons.

Some of the trucks carrying Iranian missiles were painted at the back the popular slogans: "Down with the U.S." and "Down with Israel."

I'm curious to hear opinions on what action should be taken to address the mounting tension in the world over Iran's continued uranium enrichment and complete disregard for international sanctions and attempted diplomacy.

I say leave them be as well.

But for very different reasons.

Yes, just let them be. Lets all stick our heads in the sand. After all, Israel will deal with them if no one else acts. Or maybe the UN (Useless Nations) will pass a few dozen more resolutions that Ahmadinejad will ignore. Or lets have some more sanctions that have done very little because the nations that sside with Iran don't enforce them. And the Russians, Chinese, North Koreans are backing Iran as it fits their agenda against the West for now.

I say lets let the Europeans and moderate Arab states figure out a course of action and the United States might help if it resembles anything that makes common sense.

After all, Iranian missiles can't reach the United States yet.

Israels survival depends ondoing what it needs to do to stop people like Ahmadinejad from reaching full nuclear weapons potential. They have no problem ignoring the UN and US and acting independently. I personally dont think the rest of the decent world have anything to worry about.

Ah, the power of propaganda mixed with an ignorant population is remarkable. Not so unlike what Hitler did to Germany.

Iran has every right to do what they are doing. If you want to fight that go read section 5 of the Nuclear Nonproliferation treaty first.

Then they get to pay the price for their actions .... personal responsibility its is a B with a itch. Unfortunately its the average Iranians who will have to pay the tab ... not the loonie Ahmadinejad or the clerics.

The only ignorant populations I know of are those in Islamic states. Most other countries are well-infomed and not afraid to speak their mind. So you must be referring to Iran.

I just read an article in the National Post, a Canadian newspaper, which spoke of Iran's 70 page document blasting Canadian human rights. This propoganda is no different than the Nazi's in the 30s.

They don't have the power to take over the entire world yet, but they would if they could and everybody should be aware of this. They flaunt themselves breaking the rules, they keep pushing it further and further, and not only do they not do anything to abide by international law but they blame Canada in front of the UN!

Maybe their missiles don't reach North America yet, but the nuclear arms they are developing will be able to. Economic sanctions are not enough. I'm with the French Foreign Minister on this...

Let Israel handle it. Syria has the same garbage Russian air defense that Iran does and Israel just flew all the way through it and back completely untouched.

They can handle it. It's about time they protect themselves anyway. All the U.S. needs to do is prepare it's missile defense in Iraq and keep its carriers out of the range of any Silkworms Iran mat have. That, and be ready to drop the hammer form the air if Iran does decide to strike at U.S. forces.

O-dark-thirty aluminum overcast skies bringing steel rain are in Irans not so distant future. Sometime between the party primaries and the general election I would presume.

Show me a treaty which allows them to threaten the destruction of a United Nations country?

Do you see a link between nuclear weapons and their declaration to the world that they will wipe Israel off the map? They need nuclear power? They're sitting on massive amounts of oil. It doesn't take a genius to see where this is going, and no treaty in the world allows for their intentions.
