Remarkable that not a single Black person from the South was qualified to serve in Congress from 1901 to 1965 until after the Voting Rights Act was passed.

Well thanks for giving a link which verifies what I said.

After George Henry White of North Carolina retired in 1901, there's not a single Black member of Congress from an ex-CSA State until Barbara Jordan of Texas and Andrew Young of Georgia in 1973.

Again, your first sentence.....States are viciously rigging elections by gerrymandering.....
You can write 100 posts,,,( I always wonder your end-game, it hardly changes minds...) but there are nine smart guys who have looked at the constitution, and, and they......and....oh, never mind.
As just one example, Tennessee is 99% repub and they want to gerrymander the ONE blue county in that state, that would just about ELIMINATE black votes and more specifically DEMOCRAT BLACK voters not allowed to vote so the GOVERNOR has STOPPED ELECTIONS, and I suppose for you, since he is repub, anything goes. Of course if it was the other way round, one red county in all of Tennessee and WE called off elections specifically to get the gerrymandering bill passed.
If you don't believe me, try something strange to you, VERIFY it yourself.
Not that any of that would make a fking difference to you or any of your ultrarightwingnut buddies here.

Race should never play a part in voting or political office. The best people should serve, regardless of race.
Race SHOULD never play a part in politics. So you think blacks NEVER run into voting problems? For instance, Tennessee governor has STOPPED their coming elections SPECIFICALLY to allow their state congress to pass yet another gerrymandering bill that will make the lower left county there the last democrat county in Tennessee now ALL of Tennessee would be RED.
But you will figure out why that is ok, right? your goal for the day, just like DOJ is trying to put Comey in jail for posting an image of that you know what number, 86 followed by 47 which they admitted it has been a YEAR of investigation and this is ALL they have. So do you think DOJ is independent of POTUS?

You can say unelected bureaucrats, you can say some are too old, some are too young, one drank in high school,,,,,,,bur fact remains,,,,,,,,try constitutionally appointed qualified jurors of the constitution. You need t get a sign!!!!

Hey, what if someone gets obese, and govt helathcare pays for the problems caused by his choice to become fat??

Your first sentence,, you state what the result would be if they gerrymander the one blue county. The result would be, you say, that it would 'just about eliminate black votes'...
Please see what you are saying. with all due respects, your comment is based on race, it is a racist comment. It implies that the decision of gerrymandering SHOULD be based on race. You are saying to NOT gerrymander in order to control the number of black votes. What in the heck, Sonhouse.
So, you want to regulate the race of people that are in the voting booth.

Race.

If we all live on an island and pay into health care, and there is a loser who gives us the finger and smokes, eats all bad foods to become obese, and dallies with catching AIDS, all voluntary......., If he gets these med conditions, is it logical that he tap into ou health system? You will not answer honestly.

So what will THAT be 'talking'? 🤔 my fave emoji

Right wing "logic":

Drawing legislative boundaries to reduce the number of Black representatives isn't racist, but noticing someone is doing it is.

My link shows blacks were elected before and after the VRA…from 1965 to 1973 as you refer is 8 yrs…it appears the VRA was ineffective in changing the people’s mind on who to vote for.

As you try to limit this to “southern” states, remember, slavery continued in northern states AFTER the civil war.

Did anyone else catch that the Republicans are cancelling elections so they can do more gerrymandering?

I get your point…. you’re saying districting can be used in ways that end up disadvantaging Black voters, even if it’s not stated outright. I agree that outcomes matter, not just intent.

I was wrong to say “you make it about race, so that makes it racist”, a miss statement on my part not exactly right.

Where I still think we need to be precise is on the legal side. For something to violate the Voting Rights Act, courts usually look for clear evidence: patterns, data, or findings that show race was a significant factor, not just that representation decreased.

So if a specific map has been ruled unlawful or meets that standard, I’m open to seeing that. Otherwise, I think it’s fair to ask whether the outcome is due to race specifically, or other factors like political clustering or geography.
So, which is it? Is it due to race or the other factors? This is certainly arguable, I admit, but it is impossible to take race out of the equation. I naturally lean to say no one cares about race anymore. (Except Sue) So it must be politics.

Democrats should be careful what they wish for. They have brought this issue to Scotus, and Scotus has ruled against them. So now the southern states, seeing that it is possible to make everything fair, which the Democrats did not want to do, are going to make everything fair. We simply want to change everything from crazy to normal.
It is common sense. There is no ...[text shortened]... o it.

Further argument that the SC does not take consequences into account in their rulings.

Corruption über alles!

I'm sure Clarence Thomas thinks he's white. Just another Trump fanboi Oreo.

There IS clear evidence that this ruling itself violates the VRA.

You have a twisted version of history.

You ARE aware that the Third Reich lost WW 2, right?
