Al Gore gave a speech last week challenging America to run on 100% zero-carbon electricity in 10 years. Serious people understand that Gore’s proposal is absurd. Maybe other people will start drawing the same conclusion about the man proposing it, says the Wall Street Journal:

I loved that speech. Problem was, it's unrealistic. It's a good idea, but the energy costs would go through the roof.

I cannot take seriously a man who rides in a private jet telling ME I should carpool.

I don't see the correlation, but then, I never took a course in economics either, so there ya go.

I have to disagree born in a lower class family. I have done quite well. Little hard work can go a long way.

Hey---me too! Most everyone I know fits that description. Makes me wonder whether or not we are the rule or the exception. 🙂

I'm sorry to break the news to you, but it's not especially common. Otherwise there would be no such thing as American poverty.

You're nuts. I'll tell you why there's so much poverty in America -- because every year tens of millions of immigrants and refugees keep coming in. Think about it: If you gave poor people the option of being poor in the United States vs. being poor anywhere else in the world, where do you think they would choose to be poor? My guess is that they would all choose to be poor in the United States where the government goes out of its way to provide poor people with jobs, education, food stamps, rent assistance and free health care. Also, the average poor person in America owns multiple color TVs, air conditioning, an automobile etc. Maybe we should just redefine poverty? There could be "American style," and "Third World style" where you live on less than $2 per day, have no potable water, and try to protect the female members of your family from being put in a U.N. Peacekeeper-run brothel. For someone who goes to college, you sure are foolish.

I've never done any such thing. In fact, I've never even flown first class.

Indeed. I have some other great ideas. First off, I think we should end all war and establish peace globally. Secondly, I think we should then erradicate all illness and desease. I think Gores ideas to end all carbon emissions into the atmosphere would then be third.

What I don't get is why Gore spends all his time telling us we are bad for using fossil fuels. Until he provides us with viable alternatives he might as well shut up. Don't tell me the way I live is bad unless you are prepared to show me a better way Al.

Not sure where you come up with that but if you choose not to get a education and apply yourself and work hard then yes you will stay poor. But there are instances in America and all over the world where it is possible not to get a leg up but that to me is more of the exception to the rule. Also I have had several experiences where some people just don't want a leg up and take what they can get free.
