We want socialism (i.e. government) to take care of voting and justice and public spaces - place where we don't want MONEY involved. We don't want votes bought and sold. We don't like high-priced lawyers getting trials delayed indefinitely through malingering. We don't want public lands treated like a dumping ground or mined indiscriminately or grazed down to the nub.
We also want capitalism because free markets are VERY efficient at serving others, producing EXACTLY the goods and services people want. We don't generally want or need government regulating businesses (when there is competition and if the justice system is good) because that just raises prices.
Many reject this view, and those that do fall into one of two camps:
1) The "I hate government" types who don't want to pay taxes and who think if they have a gun, a claw hammer, and a yellow dog - they will be JUST FINE THANK YOU!
2) The "Government Must Do More Good Everywhere" types who feel that free food, free housing, free internet and free hand jobs is part of the natural order. These folks will raise your taxes until your eyes water and spend it "to do good everywhere" which means "however they see fit." They will also regulate business until you feel like you live in Europe.
(I lived in Europe for nine years. They have good bread. It's suffocating to live there, and nothing is convenient. Europeans don't believe in 'convenience.' ) 😀
@spruce112358 saidConvenience is what I listed as the top draw of living in the United States of America. Thank you for acknowledging how important and attractive that is.
