Actually I was more upset that the movie "sucked". They really "screwed" me out of my money.

Maybe he should have used some "Trojans" in his army.

Oh come on Greeks! Admit it! Your ancestors valued homosexual behavior, even exalting it above heterosexual sex. It's not such a stretch then to imagine that Alexander was bisexual, especially since from everything I've been told, the histories are silent on his sexual preference.

Just a lot Greek homophobes trying to impose their morality through time.

This is not quite accurate.

First, to describe the Greek sexual activity as 'homosexual'
is anachronistic. There was no such word and the concept
did not have the same meaning as it does today.

In some Greek sexual cultures, the woman was for procreation.
She was considered an inferior sexual partner. The boy on
the other hand, was the preferred means of sexual gratification.
Adult males engaging in sexual behavior was far rarer and raised
an eyebrow.

Trying to draw parallels or even corrolations between the sexual
cultures of today and 2000 years ago is very dangerous; even
reaching back a few hundred years means making a lot of unsafe
and unsound assumptions.

There's been a lot of discussion about this in musicological circles,
which might be a surprise, because Franz Schubert's 'sexuality' has
been the subject of both debate and speculation for about 10 or so
years. The research has uncovered a Vienese underculture of homo-
eroticism. To label it as 'homosexuality' as the term is understood
would not be quite accurate, because, again, sexual norms, expectations
and taboos were very different than they are today.

Indeed, the term 'sexual orientation' and the effort to classify people
as 'straight, gay, or bisexual' is a very recent thing. To point to the
past and say, 'That person was gay' is not as simple as it might appear
because it assumes that those people had the same understanding
about their 'sexuality' (anchronism) that we would.

I blame the victorians for all the stigma assosciated with homosexuality.

Actuallly making significant assumptions about the sexuality of a historic figure is rather poor form, even for mainline cinema. Ofcourse in 'Troy', Achilles was depicted as heterosexual, which in itself is pretty silly, considering his gay love for his cousin.

Depicting Alexander as bisexual where there is no evidence prove so is pretty poor form, even for Hollywood. Ofcourse you will find many sites that claim otherwise, but then do you really trust a site dedicated to 'gay heroes' 🙂

Why? Because it agitates your homophobic condition?

I'm saying that given the period the story is set in, Alex being behaving in a manner we would call "bisexual" now is not such a grand leap.

For the same reason it would be poor form for any of your friends to go around telling everyone your grandfather was homosexual, when that is not the case.

You need to chill out just a little bit more. If you fail to agree with someone's point of view, calling them a homophobe only makes me believe that you yourself are extremely touchy about this subject. Why would you be so incredibly touchy ? The logical assumption is that you are yourself or a close friend or relative is gay. Ofcourse that would explain your irrational fear of all that is Christian.

Personally I couldn't care less what your sexual preference is , but if you are to enter a thread concerning homosexuality, post your opinions and then proceed to berate anyone with opposing views, I sincerely suggest you contemplate counseling.

cheers

my grandfather got hit on by a greek guy - he was well pissed (drunk) at the time. Sobered up pretty quick.

What's the big deal if you like getting your g-spot tickled.
